GFI for Irrigation Well Pump Start Relay

I just had an irrigation well dug with a 1 HP pump and will put a Pump Start Relay in between the existing controller and the new pump. The controller box the with timer, watering zones, etc. itself is plugged into a GFI recepticle outlet. However, both the new pump and pump start relay will be on a seperate 20 amp circuit. Do I need to have the pump and relay circuit ALSO GFI protected?
Thanks!

If you don't protect them separately, then they are unprotected and so are you.
