Strange Washer Circuit Requirements--Miele 1215

I was wondering if anyone has experience with Miele front loading washer.

The installation manual is at:
http://www.miele.ca/miele/canada/Ope...5874920-02.pdf

The electrical requirements are on page 52 (48 printed on the page).

The manual states:
The washing machine is supplied with a
5’ 3" long, 4 wire cord, ending in a
NEMA 14-30 P plug, ready for
connection to a 120/208-240 V, 15 A, 60
Hz, AC power supply.

The problem, of course is that a NEMA 14-30R receptacle is a _30_ amp receptacle, but the specification is for a 15A power supply. I don't have access to the washer nameplate, and none of the web information shows the actual name plate. (Of course, I'll have the information when the washer is delivered.)

If I read 210.21(B), I believe that I can connect a _single_ 14-30R receptacle to a 20A circuit. Normally I would follow 210.21(B)(3), which requires 30A receptacles on 30A circuits, but this applies to 2 or more receptacles on a single circuit.

I would like to get second opinions on feeding a 14-30R with 12/3 cable and a 20A breaker for this application. I'm pretty certain that this is correct, but would appreciate a plan review.

Thanks
Jon

Yes, use a dedicated circuit.

But there could be some error here in the specifications.

Does it have some type of heating or drying capability?
If so, perhaps it is 15A in Canada on 240V, but 30A in the USA on 120V.
Otherwise, 15A is plenty for a front-load clothes washer.

I was not able at this time to open the URL you provided.

bolide,

Thanks for the comment. I'm am pretty certain that the information is not a typo; the washer comes with a L14-30 plug, which clearly indicates 120/240V. At the same time, Miele sells a kit which plugs into a single L14-30 receptacle, and provides _two_ L14-30 receptacles so that the washer and dryer can be plugged in at the same time (I _presume_ that the matching dryer is a low wattage dryer). So as best I can determine, the washer comes with a 30A plug, but only requires a 15A circuit.

Because 12ga cable is considerably less expensive and much easier to work with than 10ga, I'd like to run a dedicated 20A circuit to this 30A receptacle. I believe that this is acceptable under 210.21(B), and by the manual it will be sufficient for the load.
