Electrical Boxes mounted flush with beams rather than sheetrock - how to fix?

When the students build my college TV studio, they mounted all the electical boxes flush with the beams rather than flush with the sheetrock. As a result, the outlets are unable to be screwed in all the way for the plates go on. When you plug something in then, the outlets push back and crack the plates (because the plates are flush with the sheetrock). Is there an easy way to fix other than re-mounting the boxes?

You could try to find these at an electrical supply house.

How did this pass inspection? It's clearly a code violation.

Buy box extenders.

Is this a commercial or public building?

This definately should have failed rough and final inspections.
