Low voltage lighting

Can I hook up two separate wires to the screws on the transformer, to run a set of lights in each direction, or do I need two separate transformers?

You can hook up as many wires as you want but you need to be sure you do not put on more lights than the transformer can supply without burning out.

The transformer should have a rating on it either in amps or VA. If it is amps, we need input or output amps and the voltage both high and low and what wattage your lights are.

You can run two sets. The only thing you have to do is add up the wattage of all of the lights you're going to use and make sure that the transformer will handle the total wattage.
