What Size Wire For 30a Extension Cord?
I just bought a travel trailer that requires 30a service. I want to make a 30' extension cord, 30a 125v, & have a length of 14ga wire at home. Is that heavy enough or should I go out & buy 12ga? Thanks.

You need 10/3 wire. Best bet is to go to an RV store or check out " rv accessories " on any search engine. They have pre made, molded plug, cord sets in 25' and 50' lengths. Price looks like $30 - $50. Simpler, safer, and you get the proper plugs for your application.

You would need 10/3 or 12/3 CORD. If you use cable, such as NM, you would need 10/2. This is only a 120v circuit.
I do certainly agree that buying a pre-made cord is your easiest and safest bet. I don't think though that you will get off so cheaply as $50.

I'd also assume you would not want to use NM cable for this (the type that would be inside the walls of your house). It's not very durable, not very flexible, and doesn't like to get wet.
If you really want to build your own extension, 10/3 SO cable if all you need is 120v. The SO cable is intended to work as an extension cord so it's built to take a lot more abuse.

Actually more correctly OP can use SJOW.
The biggest difference between SO and SJ is SJ is only 300 volt rated and SO is 600 volt rated.
Op needs to use one with the "W" (as in wet location) designation.
