Solid or THHN

On a new service entrance,, anywhere in the code does it state that the ground wire going out to the Ground rods needs to be bare solid or can it be also THHN stranded?

The NEC does not specify. Local codes may.

I use stranded bare.

NEC 250.62 is where you want to look. Grounding electrode conductors may be bare, solid, covered, insulated or stranded. They must be sized to the largest ungrounded service entrance conductor according to Table 250.66. For 200 amp service you need minimum #4 awg copper to any metal water pipe. Maximum #6 awg copper to any ground rod.

I see the #4 for the water line,, but isnt #6 to small since its smaller then the largest current carrying conductor?
