Ceiling Fan with Light Fixture with only one pullchain

I've put this older ceiling fan I got for free up. Wired it to the electrical in my home everything works fine except the lights have not pullchain like the other ceiling fans in our home. Once I connected the wires in the following manner;

Elec Box Fan
Black ----- Black & Blue (Power
White ---- White (Neg)
Green ---- Copper (Ground)
Blue/white strip - has a tag on it "Use only with wall switch".

the lights were on and the fan started right up. Fan can be controlled via the one pullchain, but the lights have no pullchain. Only way currently to turn the lights off is to turn the bulb.

Any suggestions on how to put a switch on or near the fan to contol the light without having to run the power and wires from a wall switch?

Thanks,
Dennis

You could buy a pull chain switch, drill hole somewhere in the light part of the fan and connect wires to disrupt the power feed to the lights.

Some mfg have pull chain kits for thier fan/lights, otherwise the big box store will have ones small enough to fit.

The other optioin is to change the wire to the switch to a three conductor and install a double switch on the wall.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'm going to check one of the local HW stores for a pull chain kit and go from there.

I'll keep you up to date,
Dennis

I'd like to know where the blue w/white in the elec box comes from. Is there two switches on the wall? Does one control the fan and the other does nothing? Are there no switches on the wall?

The Blue/White is form the fan.

Todd, one can maybe get a remote control system, althout adding a pullchain would be cheaper.

MD/Classicat,

I'm sorry, I was listing what was coming from the fan;

Home Elec:
Black
White
Copper

From Fan:
Black
Blue
White
Green
Blue/White Strip - has a tag on it "Use only with wall switch".

I got it working with the pull chain I purchased at the big store, only $ 2.98.

I removed the screw on the bottom of the fan/light fixture, and replaced it with a pull chain. It was like they made that hole for the pull chain for the light, just didn't install it when it was put together.

Thanks for all your help, anymore questions? or suggestions?

The previous owner removed the pull chain, since they have a switch that was used to control the light.

recraft,

Yes, that must be it, I wasn't sure why the pull chain wasn't there, but working very well now.

Thanks again for everyone's help,
Dennis
