Receptacle Height in Garage ?
Hi Guys.....Great site with excellent information.
I was wondering what height my receptacles need to be in my detached garage. I've heard 40" and 48" ....Also, do I need just one GFCI outlet or should they all be GFCI protected ? Thanks a lot. Tony.

I use 48".
All readily accessible (ie: the ceiling is not considered readily accessible) 120v, 15 & 20 amp receptacles must be GFI protected. They do not all have to be GFI devices.

When I wired my garage I put everything at about 4 ft off the floor. I dont think there is a code rquirng this but it is a handy hiegth. Garages havw a tendency to become cluttered so make sure you put a couple of outlets in places they would never be blocked. I have twelve outlets in my garage and I think I may have ready acces to 4 of them with out moving something. Ive found just inside doors usually stays pretty clear, an outside outlet is nice too.
