Buy the book Wiring Simplified. It will answer the question you have asked and the numerous ones you have not yet asked (because you don't yet know enough to ask them).

buy the book? but then I wouldn't need to be here and meet all yous great people.

I find myself more on the internet in front of a monitor rather than in front of book.

Trust me. This book is worth it's weight in gold. It is inexpensive and has a polethora of information in it.

As I said, it will answer the question you have asked, and then will go on and answer the next several you will (or at least should have).

If for some reason you still have questions, then we can help.

I actually think my question might be preference. I've heard people say that they prefer to wire the lighting circuit with the feed to the light itself. However, I have read where both ways are acceptable. This was why I was looking for an image or something so that I can get a visual on either way.

Draw it out on paper. It's not difficult. If you can't draw a simple circuit like this then you should not be trying to wire it.

The hot wire gets switched, the neutral never gets switched.
