Pink and gray?

So I'm trying to put up a ceiling fan with a light where there was previously one without, about 15 years old. I've done this before, and the wires are consistently black for hot, white for neutral and blue for the light and green for ground.

So I took down the old fixture, and inside, I find that it is wired pink to pink and gray to gray.

Which one is the hot one? My voltage meter isn't registering anything at all, so I think I need to replace it.

I'm not sure. I can't even see the box because it is in the ceiling above an oak beam with a hole drilled in it. All I can see is the 2 wires protruding.

It's on a switch. I could probably take the switchplate off and see which one is on the right side, yes?

the hot wires will be on the switch.

grey is a good guess for the neutral. it will go to white on the light. the blue and black from the new fan light will go to the pink .

Thank you so much. Maybe I can get this thing done before it gets dark!
