Discolored wire

When i was cleaning up my mess from re-wiring, i noticed that some of the white wires from what i ripped out where a pinkish color near the ends where they connected to the light socket. Is this the result of over heating or what causes this?

Yes, it is heat, caused by older lower temperature insulation, loose connection, and/or over lamping.

WHITE wires gets dicolored without any heat it is a manufacturing process defect. if not enough lithum is put into the wire color then they will discolor. It is not heat whatever goes on the white wire it also goes into the black. Test it put into the sun ultraviolet ray for a day or so. It will discolor expecialy cheap wires. Is it heat? no just ultraviolet exposure.

YES, it is heat. Especially since it is near a light socket.
Discoloration near breakers and neutral bars is also an indication of heat.
