replacing dimmer switch

i installed a new dimmer switch and found it did'nt work. this dimmer switch works a light over a kitchen table. in the same box there is another switch (not a dimmer ) thats works another kitchen light, which has no problems. so each switch has different wires. i checked the power going to the good light it has 120 volts. the wires with the dimmer switch i replaced, the power there was only 90 volts. there is no problem with anything else on that circuit. could someone help me with my problem. one thing i also noticed, before i had time to change the switch, was, that there was a small light in the switch that seem to slowly die by the time i got around to changing it. thanks .

Please describe the number and color of all the wires in the box. Describe what is hooked to what. How many and what color wires went to the switch you replaced? Are both lights on the same breaker?
