Wiring Router Table

I have a home made router table with a portable router attached. I want to wire this to my table with the proper switch and outlet attached to the table so I can unplug it or switch it off right at the table. Is it safe to buy a switch/outlet combo at the hardware to do this with or should I have a special switch /outlet for this?

Assuming that the reouter has a normal cord and plug then, yes, you can buy a combination switch/receptacle for this.

You could surface mount a handy box and install the device in there, and use a SO type cable with a plug on the end that plugs into a normal receptacle for power. Alternately, you could install a junction box recessed into the side of the table and install the device, wiring in the same manner as described above.
