High pitch buzzing noise?

I recently installed a dimmer switch on my kitchen light. It works but when I dim the light I can hear a very high pitched vibrating noise. The funny thing is, the pitch is so high some people can't even hear it (my wife) but it is quite annoying to me. Is this normal?

Pretty commom with some dimmer designs especialy the inexpensive rotary dimmers. You might try a slide dimmer. Make sure the dimmer wattage rating is adequate for the load.

Problem is not the dimmer. It is the bulbs. Try a different brand of light bulbs.

This drove my dog nuts too. Changed the lamps, and I still have the same dog.

It's already a slide dimmer. I will try a different brand of bulb. The bulbs in there now are the cheapos that my builder put in 2 years ago.

Off topic a smidgeon, You can get a very annoying hum/buzz from ceiling fans with a cheapo speed control, always spend on the good ones.

There was no mention of a ceiling fan or a speed control. The question was about dimmers and lights.

You would do best with a rough service bulb--it has a tougher filament that will not vibrate so easily.
