running 6/3 w/gd to relocated range

If I decide to put a range in a center island, I'll need to wire in a new circuit.

1) It's on a concrete slab, so one option is to cut a channel inthe concrete and run the new wiring exiting the wall into the concrete via a conduit to the new range area, ending in a surface mount recepticle.

2) Another path I thought of, IF- I can tie in the center island counter-top to a support post that I might leave in place, could I run the new circuit down the support post, and in a channel under the center-line of the counter top to the range area, where it would end at a surface mount plug-in recepticle ?

Ignoring all the "IF's" and assuming the layout would happen, What are the problems with this 2nd plan? Thanks

I see no reason why you can't go up then down the support.
The Nm cable Must be protected though. Boxed in or in conduit.

If in the slab you will need conduit, no "Ifs'".
