Question 3 way switch to 3 way dimmer

Replacing a 3 way toggle switch with a 3 way dimmer toggle switch. The exsisting switch has a yellow wire connected to terminal marked common, a black screw. There are two blue wires connected to each side of the top of the switch, two brass screws. My new dimmer switch has yellow, red, black and green wires. The instructions describe: yellow to 3 way switch, red to 120v source, black to 3 way switch and green ground.

Is the "common" (yellow wire in box) the 120v source? If so, then redwire on new switch to yellow wire in box - correct? If so, then does it matter which blue wire gets connected to either the yellow or the black on my new dimmer switch?

Thank you.

The red wire of the three way dimmer is the common. The term 120 volt source is not necessarily correct.

The use of the term "red to 120v source" is either incorrect, or you have a dimmer that can only be used on one side of the circuit. If you have a switch that can only be used on one side of the circuit then you either may not be able to put the dimmer at this location or you will have to make wiring changes, depending on how the circuit is wired.

Thank you. Does it matter which of the blue wires are connected to the yellow or the black on the switch?

In a three way switch setup the actual traveler wires are interchangeable. It makes no difference which is which.

Thumbs up

Thank you. It's finished and works just as it should. Thanks again for your help.
