Angry outlet problem

hey all,
one of my outlets is acting weird. the slightest bump will cause the outlet not to work but if i bump it again it comes back on (that is whatever is plugged into it). Also i noticed that if that plug is not working, my bathroom lights all the way on the other side of the house doesn't work unless that outlet is working. any ideas?

Probably a bad connection in the outlet. Turn power off to that circuit by turning off the breaker. Get yourself a test light or equivalent and test to make sure power is off.

remove outlet

inspect wiring connection and/or replace outlet.

As HotinOKC has stated, the likely problem is a bad connection. Since it occurs when something plugged into this RECEPTACLE (outlet is an ambiguous term and should be avoided), the problem is most likely at this receptacle. However, when this problem occurs, in general terms, the problem could be at any location on the circuit, including at a working receptacle.

When you check the receptacle, re-make any wire nutted connections with new wire nuts and move any back stabbed connections to the screw terminals.
