J-Boxes sitting directly on attic insulation... OK or NO WAY

Greetings,

I just bought a house and I put some exposed wire connections in J-Boxes, in my attic. Is it OK to have the J-Boxes sitting directly on top of the ceiling insulation (blown-in insulation)? Or do they have to be elevated?

Thanks much!

they can be in, on, around, or by the isulation but the need to be secured/ attached/ nailed/ or screwed to something. (which it sounds like they are not)

The do have covers on them too, correct??

Yes... Covers on all boxes.

Correct... Just sitting there, on top of the insulation.

I assume that the necessitiy to mount them to a beam, etc, is to protect them from being tripped over/pulled/jarred by somebody walking around in the attic. Or is this a "code" issue. Would you please elaborate on your comment.

Any way ~ J-Boxes are just sitting on top of the insulation.

Thanks
