generator hooked into house power supply

In case of a power failure someone told me that as long as the Master Breaker was turned off I could hook up the generator into any wall plug with an extension cord and there would be power throughout the house.. Can someone confirm this idea..TIA.

No. This idea is:

1) illegal.
2) stupid.
3) a good way to kill someone.
4) a good way to burn your house down.

The only way to connect your generator into your house electrical system is to use a properly installed generator transfer switch or a properly installed main breaker interlock kit.

It will only work for circuits plugged into 1/2 of the breaker box, and could overload the line you plug into..

Do it right and use a 220 volt connection.. Another suggested method was to use extention cords, but I don't see the point in laying out trip wires around a dark home..

In addition to the four deadly flaws already mentioned, it won't work anyway.
