1 1/4 setback
Hi,
I know this is a dumb question, I hope you'll indulge me.
I need to install a receptacle in a new partition. Framing is 2x4.
I mounted the plastic receptacle box onto the side of the stud and left it projecting a half inch so it's edge will be flush with the finish sheetrock. But the box is very deep. So deep that the back of the box is within a half inch of the other face of the stud. When I put the romex thru the port in the box, it is clearly closer to the back surface of the stud than the minimum 1 1/4 inches. Does this mean I just need to get a shallower box? Or does the 1 1/4" rule not apply for where the romex enters the box?
Thanks
NJ

the 1 1/4 only applies where the cable passes through, or is stapled to the framing member.
So, bend the cable neatly to the center of the stud before you put your staple within 12 inches of the box.
