I do not know what wiring diagram you have. If possible maybe you could post a pic on one of the free sites or link us to one on the mfg web page.

I did look at my Uglys book and all the ones shown there have one wire to the switch for each wire in the motor's cat head.

Edit: I changed the name of the motor's wiring compartment to a more politicly correct one.

maybe "chicken head" would be better. after all, the prior name is what they do all day long.
or how about "motor lead termination chamber"?

FIBJR: how many leads does the motor have and how are they labled?

and PLEASE do not capitalize the first letter of every word. It makes it difficult for my old eyes to read and I really want to help you through this difficult time. Help me help you.

Just being a bit overly dramatic but it does make it hard to read.

You need four wires plus a ground from the switch to the motor.

thanks for losing tha caps. It helps.

Not sure of your info.

From what I see, you have 4 leads on the motor labeled;

U1, V1, U2, and Z2 and you simply swap the connections as you have listed to reverse the rotation.

and one of the power leads is shown tied to those to each of those connections?

if not please correct me.

post the brand and model of the shaper as well. Maybe we can find some info online to help.

You never asked how to wire the switch. You asked how many wires.

do you have a brand name and model number for the switch?

can you ring it out to see what connects to what?

All you need is a heavy duty four way switch, if the motor overloads are internal to the motor.

Does your reversing switch have overloads?

Sounds like your switch is double pole double throw center off.

Do you have a tester that you can use to ring out the switch?

I was confused a bit by the use of the term contact. What I guess you meant was connection points.

I will post back shortly with what I believe is the correct wiring.

You run with this one Jeff.

I need info OP is not giving after asking twice and that is only concerning the motor, I didn;t even get to the switch.

I am an electrician, not a dentist.

tks nap I think I understand

fibjr, do you have a tester? I want to check continuity before I give advice. If we get this wrong, the switch will not be the only part you need to replace.

fibjr,

Please use proper punctuation and capitalization in your posts. It not only makes you look more intelligent, but it makes them much easier to read. The easier it is to read posts, the more likely you are to get a response

Also, checking your spelling would help. I realize that most of your spelling mistakes are actually typing mistakes, but a spell checker would catch them. They do have spell checkers available for Internet Explorer, Firefox, and most other browsers.

set your tester for ohms (that is the upside down U symbol. put your leads in comm and ohms

see if the switch has a center off position. meaning it will click into three locations.

remove the jumpers that came pre installed on the switch. put the switch in each position and tell me what shorts to what in each position. be very specific.

also is there a seperate on off switch or is this switch for on off and reverse?

first try checking the tester. short the test leads and see if the needle pings.

make sure the tester is set up on ohms, that the batteries are good, and that the leads are in the right holes in the tester.

next view the switch like this from top to bottom.

1..........2
3..........4
5..........6

the switch first in the off positon. nothing should short to anything.

Next try on up.

Next try on down.

geez and I provided numbers and everything

I know this is frustrating, but it is the reality of talking in words only over the net. communication can be easily lost. I am trying to be absolutly sure of what you have before I tell you how to wire this. I will not be responsible for your mistakes no matter what, (forum rules) but I still do not want to give out bad advice.

So by the numbers switch up what number shorts to what number and are you sure it shorts to nothing else.

next switch down.. same thing.

I will post a wiring diagram on my web space, and a link to it here as soon as we are positive we have this right.

I have given this my best effort, and I cannot see how this switch can work on this motor.

Did the shaper mfg send you this switch as a replacement part?

OK, let me tag in here. I've had a chance to do some other stuff and willing to give it another shot.

Fibjr, I need you to list all of the leads in the motor.

then list all the connections for CW rotation.

then list all the connections for CCW rotation.

use L1 and L2 as the incoming power leads and include them in your connections.

BTW, realize that we are sitting at our homes doing this because we want to help where we can. We recieve nothing for this other than satisfaction so if you do not recieve an answer as quickly as you think you should, then you would best be served by paying for the advice you are getting here for free. OK?? Just wanted to make that clear.

Either the switch needs to be 3 pole, the motor needs to be 3 wire instead of four, or we need to incorporate some relay logic into the picture.
