Wiring a j-box for a double wall oven

Getting ready to install a GE double wall oven. My question is about the connection of the oven pigtail to the 8/3+g cable.

The instructions say to put the junction box ON the wall, and not IN the wall.

This is fine by me, but I was uncertain as to which box to use. I would think a 4x4x2 steel box with cover would work...then just use a cable clamp to secure both the in and out cable runs. The incoming power would be NM-B cable, and the outgoing (the pigtail to the oven) is armored cable (8/3 +g).

Does this sound reasonable, or is there a better alternative to surface mounting a j-box.

Thanks!

The oven will hide the ugly J box, so it sounds fine to me.

I would put a double box in the wall so that the romex does not need to be exposed, then I would put a box extension on top of that. The box extension would be outside the wall and give you a place to enter the box with the whip from the oven.

You could likely install the box in the wall and use a plate with a knockout on it, and a 90 degree box connector.
