Smile connecting a 220 volt airconditioner

Hi
I have a 220 volt line in my basement (for a dryer) using 10/3 wire, I don't use this outlet at all but I don't want to take it out.
My question is can I run 10/3 (I'm using 10/3 wire because I have some left over) wire from this outlet to a new 20 amp outlet that I can plug in a 25000 btu airconditioner?
I have a 30 amp breaker in the main panel.
Thanks
Paddy

Yes. I recommend taking out the existing receptacle, and just making it a covered junction box for the cables. Just keep it accessible.

You should also replace the breaker with a 20A, because of the ampacity of the new receptacle.

I don't know BTUs. How many amps does it require?

You must change the breaker to 20A for this air conditioner.

You need to change the breaker to 20 amps and you need to remove the 30 amp receptacle.
