Question Emergency Generator hookup/switch gear

I have to install an outdoor plug 120 / 240 inet to receive power to my home panel from an emergency generator. I need to now what is needed and the proper procedure for installing to my homes breaker panel. I have 100 amp line service coming in to the box, no room in the panel for another breaker. The generator does have its own breakers. 6500 watt peak gen. 5500 watt. generator. What do I need to do to wire this in?

You either need a main breaker interlock (and the capability to add a breaker to your panel) or you need a proper transfer switch.

The connection outdoors, will not be an outlet, but rather an inlet. It will have a recessed plug capable of excepting the end of an extension cord that you will buy or make for the generator.

I recommend one of the trasnfer panels that you can install like a sub-panel.
