Question Humming Doorbell Chime box

At 2:40 am I was awakened by a doorbell ring. I discovered a humming noise coming from the chime box. What is causing the humming and how do I stop/fix it. Thanks, Cando06

My guess would be a problem with one of the bell switches at the doors, making light contact. There is no moving power in the doorbell system until a button is pushed(not quite true if you have lighted buttons). Also remove the cover and check for something loose in the solenoid mechanism.

I agree. Probably a stuck doorbell button. Replace it. They're cheap.

If it sticks long enough it may burn out the chime or transformer.

Also I have seen some chimes mounted with the transformer in a box behind the chime. It could be the humming of a transformer going bad in that case. Buttons though are first check as originally suggested.
