basement outlets

I'm helping my daughter finish a basement. She had an electrician friend install 20 amp wiring for 10 wall outlets. I am helping her install the outlets and I have a couple of questions. Can I use 15 amp outlets on a 20 amp circuit? I have a box of 15 amp backwired outlets left over from another project and want to use them.
The other question concerns GFI. I know it's not required, but is there any reason not to use a GFI breaker or a GFI outlet on this circuit? It seems like a smart thing to do for the little it costs.

15A Rec are fine.
GfcI not required, but if you feel better,You can install one at the first rec location. IE: breaker-- 1st rec GFCI--- next reg-- etc.
Identify line and load at first location. (line is the breaker side).

15 amp receptacles are fine if in the US. If in Canada then you need 20 amp receptacles.
