splicing wire

I need to flush mount a 50 amp range recp.....I will have to splice the #6 wire together in order to do this...I have access to an area were I can mount a 4in square box to do this....My problem is that the old cable is like a service entrance cable with the nuetral wrapped around the two hot conductors...the two hot conductor are copper and the nuetral I assume is alum...Is this possible?.....My questions are ...1. how do I connect the copper and the alum? ...2. do I need to put some kind of insulation around the alum conductor?....Thanks

Are you saying you need to lengthen the run?
If so this is not allowed by code since you have an SEU cable feeding the range now.
You must re-run the circuit with an 8/3 or 6/3 CU NM cable, or #4AL SER.
