Romex Sheath Damaged

I found a cable that is damaged when I opened the floor between the second and first stories of my house. The outer white sheath of the cable has a small tear. There is a black sheath showing from one of the wires inside. No copper is exposed. Should I wrap this with tape? Is there a specific product to use?

Technically the cable needs to be replace, or a permanently accessible junction box used.

However, most people would probably go the route you are suggesting, using electrical tape..

Thanks. The damage is so minor I think taping will be good enough.

If only the outer sheath is torn taping with electrical tape is a legal and safe fix. This is assuming the tear is not extreme.
