Ceiling light

I am trying to replace the ceiling light in my kitchen. The old one fell down so I'm not sure how the new one should hook up. The wire from the box in the ceiling are 3 blacks twisted together, 3 white, and 1 lone red. I attached the the 2 blacks from the new fixture to the 3 blacks and the 2 whites to the 3 in the ceiling. The red wire was tried with the blacks and alone. The light turns on, but will not turn off. There are switches at either end of the kitchen that should turn it on/off but don't. Obviously I'm missing something...

WhaT does this mean "The red wire was tried with the blacks and alone.". Was the red alone or was it tied to the blacks?

Most likely you need to tie the blacks from the new fixture to the red wire. The blacks in the box are tied together but not to the fixture.
Connect the fixture whites to the other whites in the box.

Smile Thanks!!!

What I meant about the red wire was that I had tried it twisted with all the blacks as well as just leaving it hanging by itself.
I did what you suggested and it now works.
Thank you!!!!
