240v thermostat with battery?

I have never seen a 240v baseboard heat thermostat that wasn't just a simple knob that you turn. Someone asked me about one with a battery. They said it stops working when the battery dies? Anyone know about this?

You can buy line voltage (120 and/or 240 volt) programmable thermostats. They may use a battery for backup purposes in the event of a power failure. Perhaps this is what was being referred to.

240 Volt Thermostats

I have 10 thermostats running on 240 in my home. Two I have replaced with programmable units. These do not have any battery backup. When the power fails they reset to 55 degrees and loose all programming. I have searched for backup units and have not found any.

I actually just purchased a 240v thermostat that is just a simple knob, but has a battery compartment with 1 or 2 AA batteries. I haven't quite figured out what the point of the batteries are - I'm assuming a more accurate thermostat than the typical thermo-sensitive metal coil.

So they do have them - actually it was the only in-stock line voltage thermostat they had in the big orange store.

Zorfdt, sounds like I'm talking about what you got. I havn't even seen this device yet, just been asked about it. I told them it must be to program it. He says its not programmable, just a plain knob.
