Wiring an Outlet

We recently got a 220 line installed in our home so we could use a dryer. We didn't have a dryer already so we didn't know what kind of outlet we needed. Now we do and we have the right outlet. There is four colors Red,Black,Green,White on the outlet it says where the White and Green go however for the other two it only shows "X" and "Y". Which is for Red and which is for Black.

30 Amp, 125/250 Volt, NEMA 14-30R, 3P, 4W, Flush Mtg Receptacle, Straight Blade, Industrial Grade, Grounding, , Side Wired, Steel Strap, - Black

It does not matter. Hook one color to the X and the other color to Y. They are both 110V hots, which together make up the 220V.
