Main Breaker Tripping

I have a rental house that the people have been living there for two years with no problems. Go there today and tenant informs me main breaker is constantly tripping. I don't understand why the main breaker would trip and not an individual breaker would trip if there was an overload. I didn't have time to look around. I did notice that there were several large screen tvs on (I don't know if these consume more electric than the average tv) a computer, and a few other items. I guess I will call an electrician but I have never had the main breaker continually trip. Just wondering if anyone has seen this before

The main breaker could be going bad. One of it's connections could be loose. There could be a problem with the [anel itself.

Regardless, since this is rental property, you do need an electrician.

Is it very common for the main breaker to go bad?

No, it is not common but it does happen.
This could be the sign of a much more serious problem.
You should get an electrician to look at it ASAP.
Let us know what you find.

Had an electrician out today and he found the wires had gotten loose at the main breaker. Tightened up the wires and we were good to go.
