Angry heat system excessive noise

We live in Texas. Just turned on the heat for the first time this season, and there is excessive noise. Never had this before. I turned it off immediately. Is this a noise you would get as you go from cold to hot? Will it go away after about 30 minutes? Do I need a serviceperson to look at it? Thanks.

You're going to have to give us a whole lot more to go on that what you have.

What kind of heating system do you have? Electric baseboards? Central fan-forced electric furnace? Heat pump? Some kind of fuel burning unit?

On my end of Texas at least baseboard heaters are an alien creature no one has ever seen or heard of and the cost of running them would make you faint.

Most likely the OP has a combination heat/cool unit with the air handler in the attic. If it is a modern unit probably a heat pump with back up resistance coils or if he is smart natural gas for the heat side. I first started to suggest the fan but he would have been using that all summer for cooling so he should have heard the noise on cool also unless the fan just went bad.
