converting two 120v lines to a 240v line?

You need to tell us what space the UF cable goes through from the wall to the panel. Probably not, but it may if the are is finished.

There is nothing between the hole in the wall and the main panel. It is an unfinished bare basement wall.

Either run the cable in conduit or run it along a runner board.

Thought, I had better let everyone know how things are going with this project. Right now I've got everything hooked up, main panel, subpanel. I'm getting ready to add a 240 line for the heater from the subpanel in the garage. The heater is a 4000 watt heater. Can, I add a switch in the line? If so, what kind? Thanks again for all your help. Thought that, I had better add that the heater is a plug in type heater. So, would there be a problem with having a switch in the power line?
