lights dimming

when the heat pump comes on or the microwave, it causes a dimming of the lights. Have tried changing the location of the breakers from the top of the service panel to the bottom and visa versa but it doesn't make any diiference. Any thoughts? lights that dim are not on the same circuit.Thank you.

Lots of possible causes, most of which you can't do anything about. I'd start by calling your power company. Some of the more customer-friendly ones are willing to come out and put a monitor on your line and check to see if their connections are all good. It may also be that the transformer is undersized, and they might be able to put your neighborhood on the list for a new transformer.

If all that fails, call an electrician to come check the connections in your panel.

If the dimming is confined to one circuit (and it sounds like yours is not), then you can check the connections on that circuit.

Brief and slight dimming of the lights when these appliances come on is more annoying than a safety problem. If everything above fails, you may just need to learn to live with it.
