Adding A Fixture

I have a switched outlet, can I tap into the wire that goes between the switch and the outlet to add a new fixture?

Thanks
Dave

Maybe, maybe not. More information is needed. Is this a switch loop or does full power run through the cable?

Since you will have to replace at least some of the cable to tap into it, why don;t you just add the proper cable to ensure that you can tap it?

Thank you Bob, not sure but I think it is a switch loop.

Well, since a switch loop does not have a neutral you will need to pull new wire, or draw directly from the switched receptacle.

But as I stated before, unless the cable has slack in it, at least one side would need to be replaced to try to tap it. So pull the right cable from the receptacle side and you can tap it.
