hook into the existing receptacle
i was just wondering if it is safe to hook into the existing receptacle that my gas water heater is plugged into to run five other receptacles off of that single receptacle that is only being used for the water heater. it uses a 15 amp breaker and all wiring is 14/2

Is this Ckt being used for the extractor fan and control box on the gas heater?
Depending on local codes, It may be possible to do this.
However, what else will you be using in these 5 receptacles? are you willing to risk losing hot water in the event of a "Breaker Trip"?
You will always be limited to 15 amps (Of actual usage) on all 6 of these recepts.
I would find something or someplace less "Critical" to tap into.
