3-wire House to 4-wire Cooktop
I've got black/white/bare coming out of the cabinets.
On my Jennair downdraft, I've got white/red/green/black.
Manual is useless!
Can someone match this stuff up for me?
The manual did say something about not using the green wire in a three wire install. So, that kinda helps.
I just need to know what colors to put together!
Thanks from a newbie!

From an old range or cooktop? What is the AWG of the wire and what is the breaker size? What is the amperage requirement of the new cooktop?
What's the model number?
The manual will have instructions for both a three-wire installation and a four-wire installation. You need to follow the three-wire (ungrounded) installation instructions.
It is probably:
wall black -> cooktop black
wall white -> cooktop red
wall bare -> cooktop white and green
But, you may also need to attach a bonding strap or screw and verify the breaker size.

Sorry -- I took out an old Jennair cooktop. It was installed in 1987, so it only had a 3-wire set-up.
I've replaced it with a new Jennair model number JED8230ADB; it has 4 wires.

Thanks again!

Okay, here's what I did. Please confirm this is okay so my parent's house doesn't burn down:
wall black -> cooktop black
wall white -> cooktop red
wall bare -> cooktop white
The green wire -- well, I snipped it and taped it up.
Is this okay?
