conduit cutter
I'm going to need to cut some 3/4 inch emt conduit for my project & was wondering what is the best way to cut it.
I'm only going to have to make about 5 cuts to get all the pieces that I require.
Should I simply use a hack saw & debur the cuts or should I go out and get some type of condiut cutter? If I need the cutter, what kind should I get?
Thanks
Joe

You can cut it with hacksaw, chopsaw, sawzall. The important tool to get is a conduit reamer to properly remove the burs and round the edge. A knifeblade or plumbing reamer doesn't get the edges smooth enough in my opinion. I use a handheld EMT reamer; it looks like a screwdriver with a stepdrill on the end of it. I think it's a Klein brand.

I use the nose of my sidecutter or needlenose pliers to remove the burr.
Do a visual check unless you like cut fingers.
DO NOT use a plumbing type tubing cutter.

Just wondering...why not a plumbing type cutter? Cause it reduces the diameter slightly at the cut I presume?
I've used one to cut emt, but not for electrical use, thats why I ask.

Thanks Ben
I just figured reaming it would take care of that. Not that I plan any conduit work anytime soon.

I have found a cordless recip saw with a metal cutting blade quite easy to use. Cuts like butter. I then follow up with the hand reamer. A hacksaw will work for you though. For larger jobs, the recip saw is quicker.
