bathroom can fan
I'm wondering if there is anything in code relating to the use of bath can fans? The bathroom in my 1966 rambler has a can light bout 16 inches in front of the bathtub (so that it is not directly over it, but 16 inches away from where the shower curtain rod is). I'd like to replace it with a can fan as there is no fan in the bathroom now. An electrician recomended the can fan option but then a friend of mine ("handyman friend") said that he thought there was some rule as to how far an open fixture must be from a shower/ tub. Some insight would be appreciated. Also, where would I go to look up other code issues.
Thank you, Brian

however this get little tricky but the NEC code is pretty spefic related to fan or luminiares near and above tub/shower area.
if happend to be driectally above the tub/shower area it a automatically GFCI reqirement but if out of the tub/shower area it kinda a grey area some inspectors will required that have to be GFCI'ed
Senice you mention 16 inches away then i am pretty much sure you don't need the GFCI for the exhaust fan unless the manufacter instuction reqired to have that then do it.
Merci, Marc
