Old house, no ground, new light fixture with ground wire

Can I install a new light fixture that has a ground wire if I don't have a ground wire in my electrical box? My house is 45 years old and doesn't have grounded wiring. I'm trying to install a new light fixture in my kitchen and the electrical box has a black and a white wire only. The previous light fixture also had only the black and white wires. The previous light fixture is only 5 years old, which I installed it myself. But this new light fixture I purchased has a white, a black and a green. Can I install it safely? Or do I need to find a light fixture with only black and white wires?

If the box is metal connect the ground to the box. If it is not then just cap it and leave it in the box.
