hard wired smoke detectors going off
hi, in the last hour my smoke detectors have been going off in my entire house. there isn't any fire or smoke or anything, and i'm not really sure what's happening.
has anyone ever have this happen before? the house was built a year ago. hasn't happened in the last 20 minutes or so, so hopefully it doesn't happen again.
thanks in advance.

Are you postive that they are not combi carbon monoxide detectors? CO is odorless, so is otherwise un-noticed until too late.
When alarms are interconnected, as yours may be, then if smoke or a fault in the alarm, cause it to go off, it triggers the others. Also , if yours are battery back-up, a low battery can cause problems, but usually beeping and not an actual alarm sound.

I had the same problem...
Not too long ago I had the exact same problem where all of my smoke detectors (not combo smoke/CO) were going off. What I did was find the detector that had set the rest off (my detectors have a red indicator light that stays lit to indicate it was the initiating device) and disconnected it. The alarms stopped. I then replaced the detector and all is working find now. I assume that it was a faulty detector although I had it installed for over a year before this problem. It took me a good 15 minutes of blaring alarms to figure out which detector set things off and to disconnect it.

This exact thing happened to my sister-in-law. She and her husband moved into a brand new home and approx. a year later, the interconnected smoke alarms (no CO sensor) started going off. They ended up pulling the alarm that was triggering all of the alarms to sound. To this day, I think they have that alarm pulled. I told them to replace the alarm, but I think they are going round and round with the builder to have it replaced.

there are few way it can get the smoke alarm get running in faulse alarm
1] too close to the ceiling fans
2] strong air movement
3] insecets [ bugs ] can get inside of smoke alarm and trip it.
4] airborne dust
5] cooking smoke from kitchen area
6] power surge [ it do happend once a while ]
7] back up battery failure
those item AFAIK that is the most common cuprits for malfunction on the smoke alarm
Merci,Marc

thanks everyone for your replies.
naturally, after posting to the forum, they stopped going off.
i'm going to check the back up batteries and see if any of them are dead. otherwise, i guess i'll just chalk it up to one of the other issues Marc listed.
thanks again.
