Wireless door chime button for vintage 16v chimes?

Time to call-in the experts. Here we go...

We recently moved into an older house that had a 16v DC transformer feeeding to a door bell chime unit (mecahnical bells) in the dining room. There is still power to the chime unit.

However, at some point the wiring from the front door button had been stripped and replaced with a cheesy wireless button feeding to a speaker unit.

My wife has purchased a vintage door chime set that runs off 16v but I have no way to actuate the chimes. Running new wires from the basement transformer is difficult because of the distance and construction.

Any suggestions on how to trigger the chimes? A wireless door button to trigger the transformer?

Thanks,

Dave

Unless you can figure out how to get the receiver from the newer wireless bell and hook it up inline with the 16v transformer output. Do you still have the replacement door bell unit?
