Rewireing Dryer with a 3 wire cord

I'm moving into an older house and the dryer outlet is only 3 wire. (I'm currently living an an Apartment and the dryer and Washer is mine, I had sears install it big mistake ) as they took the bonding jumper with them and kenmore wants $85 for one the dryer is over 12years old now. I know how to wire in a new cord but my question is can I go to Home Depot and pick up a short piece of 10 Guage wire to use as the bonding jumper? and if so what color?

Absolutely.

As far as color...stick with either Green or bare copper.

You may even wish to get ring lugs for the ends.

Just for giggles....look right inside the wiring block hole . Install techs often "Duct taped" the jumper to the inside of the case..
