Chandelier crisis

How do I install a chandelier that has one black and one white wire to a junction box that has two black wires connected by a wire nut, two white wires connected the same way and one red wire? When I connect the black to black and white to white the light works but the wall switch doesn't. When I connect the red and black (from the chandelier), and the whites nothing works

Open the switch boxes and give us the details of the connections/colors there. Did you remove a fixture? How was it wired?

I removed the chandelier because a (stem) from a light bulb had broken off from the bulb in one of the sockets. I didn't realize it untill when I tried to install a new lightbulb, there was a pop. I shut the power off at the breaker and removed the (stem). Could I have blown the switch? The switch is a dimmer switch which also controlls an outlet. The switch is connected to two black wires and one red one. Four white ones are taped together.

Sounds like the red is the switch leg from the switch. White from light to white. Black from light to red. You may have smoked the dimmer. Replace it with a regular switch until you get the light working correctly. Then try the dimmer again.
