Grounding rod needed for above ground pool?

I have seen some above ground pools bonded and then terminated (after the pump lug) to a driven ground rod at the pump pad (approximated 5' away from pool sides). Is this necessary?

No, a ground rod is not required for a pool based on NEC.

No, and it serves no purpose.
