Buy some 10-3 sjo wire... You cant make extension cords out of NM anyways...

the stock at home depot/lowes varies by location, they should have it but I would call first. If not a local electric supply would be your best bet.

Also remember that SJ cord and Romex wire numbers are not the same. Meaning

10- 3 SJ = Black, White, Ground
10- 3 Romex = Black ,white, red, ground

So if you need a Red, ask for 10-4 SJO cord

Probably but if they don't, any electrical supply house should.

Extension cords are intended for temporary use only. You will need to install a permanent receptacle. What are the specs for the receptacle (amps/number of wires) you are plugging into? It was intended for an AC wasn't it?

You definitely don't want to run a 50' extension cord for an air conditioner. Hard wire it correctly to the location. It is the only way to do it safely.

I merged your threads into one because they cover the same problem.

A 28kBTU air conditioner is a pretty big unit, especially to run at a distance of 50'. Without knowing the nameplate specs of the unit, I'm not sure the #10 SJO is sufficient for this A/C.

Furthermore, 50' is a long cord to use safely. Make sure it is not covered by any carpets or rugs, and that it does not present a tripping hazard such as crossing a doorway or hallway.

A 28K btu A/C @ 240 volts will draw anywhere from 24 to 28 amp very easy and with 50 foot extenison cord that part I am not too crazy but it can be done but my main conderastion is the amout of current going thru the 10-3 SJO cord.

Is there any reason why can't you run a new romex cable for the A/C unit ??

Merci,Marc
