Unhappy Posessed Laundry Dryer

I have a problem with my somewhat old maytag laundry dryer. It wasn't drying clothes this morning, so i took off the front cover and looked around. I vacuumed the dust and put it back together. I started it up, and it blew out the back a large chunk of hardened lint and about $1.85 in change! My problem now, is that the dryer will keep heating up, without it running . I figure it might be a relay or something, but i'm not sure. Any help in fixing my only means of drying clothes will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

What do you mean by "without it running"? Does that mean that the drum doesn't turn?

If I were to make a stab in the dark, I'd guess there is a coin in the heating coil and it's making contact between the element and ground. The other possibility is that the heating element has broken and is touching it's metal shield. Unplug the dryer and check.
