Electrical supply for a dishwasher

We have just bought a new dishwasher and I'm stumped with the wiring. The old dishwasher had a wire running from it with a plug that went into the standard wall socket behind the dishwasher under the cabinet.

This new diswasher has no wiring with it. I've googled like mad and know that I need an electrical cord to go under the dishwasher, which I then need to wire up myself at the front. However, how do I attach this to the house's electrical supply? My questions are:

1) Can the dishwasher just be plugged into the standard under cabinet wall socket behind it (house built 1988, has fuse for dishwasher in breaker box)
2) If so, can I just buy this electrical cord to attach it? Is it specialised or do Home depot etc sell it?
3) If I have to make some sort of extension cord myself, how do I do it? What parts do I need?

Thank you
P.S. I'm British and have no idea about American electrics.

They are not too hard to hook up in cord/plug fashion.

However due you are from British so let me fill you in real quick with North America system

Black - Live

White - Netrual

Green or bare - Earth { ground }

You will find a junction box front bottom of dishwasher and you can go any big box store or hardware store and get applaice cord and get NM { non metalic or Romex } clamp as well and 2 or 3 yellow wirenuts and hook up match the colours.

Merci,Marc

If the cord on the old dishwasher is in good shape, you can probably just move it to your new dishwasher and connect it the same way.

Thank you both for your reply. I'll go to a DIY store and pick up one of the cords recommended.

John - unfortunately the old dishwasher was taken away by the delivery guys........ we live & learn!
