Doorbell transformer positioning?

Where does one normally locate that doorbell transformer? Right now, it is attached to an outlet box hanging on a basement joist. However, this is going to be living space soon and it needs to go. Where is the question.

Most doorbell transformers will fit into a deep round box, and are sometimes even covered by the doorbell itself. If you put it in a round box, it has to remain exposed with a coverplate.

I put mine on a 4 square box in the attic right next to the access door. I have also seen them attached to the breaker panel. Most doorbell transformers are made to be mounted thru a 1/2 inch knockout in a panel/junction box.

I'd just relocate it to somewhere that's accessible. Could be the attic, crawlspace, unfinished basement, garage. If worse comes to worse, it could be put behind a 6"x6" access panel inside a wall.

The transformer does produce heat, so I wouldn't bury it in insulation or anything like that.

Bah, put it on it's on 50amp circuit.

Um, don't actually do that. Virtually anyplace is good. I've seen them on main panels as well.

Thanks guys. I didn't know if it had to be in a specific place or not. Looks like the attic is a new home for her.
